Strategy

Strategy is all about setting long-term goals for your organization and building a roadmap to achieve them.

Here are just a few examples of how we have helped turn our clients’ strategic goals into reality.

STRATEGY

Strategic Planning Consultation

Nunavut Film Development Corporation

The Nunavut Film Development Corporation (NFDC) hired Lichen to develop an interactive strategic planning process including direct consultations with practitioners, community stakeholders, and aspiring film professionals across Nunavut.

The consultations were conducted bilingually in Inuktitut and English and worked to build local capacity, raise awareness, and bridge knowledge about the integration of the sector with broader forces such as changing broadcast technology infrastructure and management.

The consultations were grounded in Inuit society, culture, and language, and reinforced core principles of collective understanding and action. This approach delivered additional depth to the outcomes of the research and the resulting strategy.

Lichen was hired to synthesize, conduct, and analyze research in advance of a strategic planning session with the Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre (QHRC).

The session provided clarity on current strategic choices related to services and clients, active and latent partners, and transactional funding relationships. It also provided an analysis of internal and external environments as well as strategic possibilities for the future.

The material was synthesized into a strategic plan offering five primary recommendations. It was then delivered in a brief report designed for present and future use by board members and staff.

Resource Development

Qikiqtani Inuit Association

QIA_emblem-round

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) hired Lichen to help develop a Daycare Board of Governance Training Book as part its efforts to strengthen early childhood learning and support local daycare societies in the Qikiqtaaluk Region.

To create the book, our team conducted a broad environmental scan of daycare governance best practices, research in daycare governance training resources, and legislative reviews of various jurisdictions.

The book touched on topics including the legal status of societies, the roles and responsibilities of boards, financial management, and management tools.

The 30-page training book was written in plain-language, graphically designed, and made available in both English and Inuktitut for use as a stand-alone reference guide or in concert with in-person training.

The Government of Nunavut hired Lichen, in partnership with Tukisigiarvik Society, to design, develop and locally produce cultural play materials for Nunavut daycares and early childhood learning centres.

Tukisigiarvik Society is a non-profit that provides programs and services that promote pride in the Inuit culture, greater levels of self-esteem, self-reliance and resiliency, and improved communication skills.

This joint project allowed their clients to participate in a culturally-based, wage-earning activity that contributes to improved personal and societal dignity.

Each daycare was provided with a set of cultural tools as well as the patterns for reproducing them in preparation for their eventual replacement due to regular wear and tear.

My project (1)

Through the Nunavut Wellness Agreement, the Department of Health in the Government of Nunavut empowered communities to design and deliver their own Community Wellness Plan programs with the goal of improving health and wellness locally.

Lichen was hired to analyze and report on progress data collected through these programs in areas such as mental health, nutrition, maternal and child health, physical activity, and addictions. The review included a statistical analysis of all collated results, including coefficient of variation, and a comparative statistical analysis measuring changes over time.

Lichen presented the analysis and related findings in a presentation that included recommendations for future sampling, as well as programs in areas such as mental health, nutrition, maternal and child health, physical activity, and addictions. The review included a statistical analysis of all collated results, including coefficient of variation, and a comparative statistical analysis measuring changes over time.

Lichen presented the analysis and related findings in a presentation that included recommendations for future sampling, as well as new templates and tools to help organize and analyze the results of future quality assurance sampling surveys.

The Law Society of Nunavut hired Lichen to provide advisory evaluation services on the topic of sexual harassment in the workplace and gender-based violence in Nunavut.

The project included two phases – initial research followed by the delivery of workshops across the territory. Research focused on what specific aspects of sexual harassment in the workplace and gender-based violence are relevant in a Nunavut context. Trauma-informed workshops were then conducted across the territory to provide Nunavut-specific information on these topics.

The project included training for lawyers to provide legal advice on these issues in the Nunavut context. It also included a campaign to provide public education tools about how to recognize and respond to sexual harassment in the workplace and gender-based violence in broader society.
