About Kyle
Kyle DeYoung is the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Consultant with Lichen Consulting Inc. Kyle is a highly motivated, multidisciplinary professional with extensive experience in policy development, governance, organizational strategy, and legal analysis in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Kyle works hard to ensure that Lichen is a high performance and trusted organization, and provides senior support to client projects in a variety of sectors.
Kyle has more than a decade of experience in policy development, legal analysis, and strategic planning. Prior to joining Lichen, Kyle served as a Legal Counsel for the Government of Nunavut, Policy Analyst with the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia, and a Legal Consultant with the World Health Organization. He also served as a Labour Relations Consultant for Halifax Regional Municipality and as a Consultant and Advisor for Dalhousie University. Before his current role at Lichen, Kyle was a sub-consultant with Lichen and contributed to a variety of governance, strategy, and policy projects.
As a Legal Counsel with the Government of Nunavut, Kyle was involved with files across the territorial government, including health policy and legislation development, employee and labour relations and negotiations, human rights applications, coroners’ inquests, and major commercial transactions. Kyle is a former board member of the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum and the Nunavut Law Foundation, and was a member of the Finance Committee of the Law Society of Nunavut.
Kyle is passionate about community development and is a co-founder of the Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia (RRANS), where he has been past President and volunteer Manager, and is currently the Treasurer of the Board. He helped grow RRANS into a thriving and sustainable organization with multiple team members and has raised more than $600,000 in funds to support the organization’s work. He has received the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society President’s Award for his leadership and commitment to community involvement.
Kyle has a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, Bachelor of Laws, and Master of Health Administration, all from Dalhousie University, and a certificate in Clinical Risk, Negligence, and Claims Management in Health Care from York University. He is a non-practising member of the Law Society of Nunavut and the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.
Kyle loves being involved in a diverse array of projects, professionally and personally. He is a licensed salesperson with the Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission, and has experience in affordable housing development and municipal zoning/planning.
Kyle lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and will always be a coastal person as he loves the sand and sights, sounds, and smells of the ocean. Kyle loves cars, good books, great food, and being involved in his local community.
